Warm (20-26°C), all mountain railways running, lake swimming, and long days for exploring. Peak season, book ahead, especially August.
December - March · Winter
Snow-capped Alps reflecting in the lake are spectacular. Christmas market in November-December. Mount Pilatus and Rigi have snow activities.
April - May · Spring
Fewer crowds, lower prices, and the Alps still snow-capped above the green valley. Some higher mountain railways may have limited schedules.
October · Autumn
Autumn colours, quieter streets, and lower prices. The lake and surrounding hills are beautiful. A great shoulder season choice.

Getting There
Lucerne has no direct international airport. Nearest: Zürich (ZRH), direct train to Lucerne in 45 minutes. Geneva (GVA) is 2 hrs by train. Basel (BSL) is 1 hr. The train station is directly next to the lake and old town.
