Top Caribbean Islands

Jamaica

Reggae birthplace with Bob Marley heritage. Negril Beach, Dunn's River Falls waterfalls, and Blue Mountains. Food is amazing (jerk chicken, ackee and saltfish). Vibrant street culture.

Puerto Rico

US territory with Spanish colonial Old San Juan, El Yunque rainforest, bioluminescent bays, and world-class beaches. No passport needed for US citizens. Excellent food blending Spanish and Caribbean.

US Virgin Islands

Maho Bay, Coral World Ocean Park, ferry access between St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas. Clear water for snorkeling. More upscale and quieter than Jamaica.

Dominican Republic

Punta Cana beaches, Santo Domingo colonial charm, Samaná peninsula whale watching (winter), and cenotes. The least expensive major Caribbean destination.

Bahamas

Nassau, Exuma swimming with pigs, Andros coral reefs, and island-hopping between 700+ islands. Closer to Florida. English-speaking and tourist-friendly.

Turks and Caicos

Pristine beaches (Grace Bay), world-class diving and snorkeling, smaller and quieter than other islands. Expensive but the water clarity is unsurpassed.

Barbados

East Caribbean island with Bridgetown colonial architecture, excellent rum distilleries, right at the edge of the hurricane belt, and upscale resort culture.

Grenada

Spice Island with nutmeg plantations, less touristy than others, excellent local food, and Grand Anse Beach. French and British colonial heritage visible everywhere.

Guesthouses, local food, public transport, and beaches (mostly free). Dominican Republic and Jamaica offer budget options.

Mid-Range

$150–$280 / day

Mid-range hotels, restaurants, ferry costs between islands, snorkeling tours, and activities. Most visitors fall in this bracket.

Luxury

$400+ / day

All-inclusive resorts, private island tours, yacht charters, and fine dining. Turks and Caicos and upscale Puerto Rico are priciest.
